What is DormiKern?   

DormiKern is a medicine that contains the active ingredient doxylamine hydrogen succinate.

Doxylamine belongs to a group of antihistamine medications that have sedative properties.

Consult your doctor if you get worse or do not improve after 7 days.

What is DormiKern used for? 

DormiKern tablets are indicated for the symptomatic treatment of occasional insomnia in patients over 18 years of age.

How to take DormiKern? 

Follow the instructions in the package leaflet or those given by your pharmacist. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Dosage 

• The recommended dose for adults over 18 years of age is: 1 tablet (25 mg) per day.
• If daytime drowsiness occurs, reduce the dose to half a tablet (12.5 mg) a day, or bring the dose forward to ensure at least 8 hours until waking time.
• Do not take more than 1 tablet (25 mg) per day.
• People over 65 are more likely to suffer from other conditions that may require a dose reduction.
• If adverse effects occur, reduce the dose to half a tablet (12.5 mg) per day.
• Patients with liver or kidney disease: The dose will be adjusted to the degree of your disease, which will be determined by your doctor.

Form of Administration 

• It is administered orally.
• The tablet can be divided into equal doses.
• The tablets should be taken 30 minutes before bedtime with a sufficient amount of liquid, preferably water.

Duration of treatment

• The duration of treatment should be as short as possible. In general, treatment duration ranges from a few days to a week.
• It should not be administered for a period exceeding 7 days without consulting a doctor.

Do not take DormiKern

• If you are allergic to doxylamine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
• If you are allergic to other antihistamines.
• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Consult your doctor or pharmacist before starting to take DormiKern, if you suffer from :

• Alteration of liver and kidney function.
• Epilepsy.
• Prolongation of the QT interval, of the heart.
• Low blood potassium levels or other electrolyte disturbances.
• Heart disease and high blood pressure.
• Asthma, chronic bronchitis or pulmonary emphysema.
• Glaucoma.
• Urinary retention.
• Prostatic hypertrophy.
• Peptic ulcer, pyloroduodenal obstruction, or bladder neck obstruction.
• If you’re over 65, you may be more susceptible to side effects. This can worsen symptoms of dehydration and heat exhaustion due to decreased sweating.

Taking DormiKern with other medicines

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines.

The package leaflet contains extensive information on incompatible medications, which may require your doctor to adjust the dosage, or which may require discontinuing treatment.  Interference with diagnostic tests
 

Doxylamine may interfere with allergy skin tests that use allergens. Stop taking DormiKern at least three days before starting such tests.

Taking DormiKern with food, drinks and alcohol

Alcoholic beverages should not be consumed during treatment with DormiKern.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility

• Do not take DormiKern if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
• There are no data available on the possible effects of DormiKern on human fertility.

Driving and using machines

• DormiKern has a significant influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
• Do not drive or operate dangerous machinery while taking this medicine, at least for the first few days of treatment until you know how it affects you.

DormiKern Composition

• Active ingredient: Doxylamine. Each tablet contains 25 mg of doxylamine hydrogen succinate.
• Other ingredients: Tablet core: microcrystalline cellulose, calcium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, low-substituted hydroxypropyl cellulose, colloidal silica and magnesium stearate. Tablet coating: hypromellose, titanium dioxide (E-171), macrogol 6000, talc and indigotine lake (E-132).

DormiKern 25 mg is presented in the form of blue, oblong, scored film-coated tablets. Each pack contains 14 tablets.
